Worked with body-as-site and created an artwork that is a physical extension of her body. Her project addressed the toxic nature of ‘Likes’ on social media. Many people, especially teenagers, often feel depressed when a photo they posted only gets a few ‘Likes’. In other words, people consider social media ‘Likes’ as a measurement of popularity, which is a serious social concern.
Cardboard Self-Portrait

Created a self-portrait bust using cardboard that could show her appearance and personality. Using a geometric approach, Elly captured the avoidance of eye contact and closing her mouth to express her personality- shyness, lack of confidence, and quiet.
Four Seasons
Materials: Natural materials I gathered from my backyard (Rocks, Pinecones, Acorn, Dry pine needles, Fallen petals)

Using the natural materials, Elly explored an environmental art. Her inspiration was to create land art that uses the colors of “nature”. Using the light gray driveway and yellowish-green grass together, she tried to use various visual components that the viewer could enjoy as their eyes moving across, such as different colors and unique surface textures of different materials.
Bubbles

Chose one object to be used several times and created one cohesive sculpture that constructed shape, form, and pattern through repetition. Elly used plastic lids, making layers in a huge circular form in the middle. In each layer, she flipped the lid over and repeated the process. And extended the object at each corner.
Paper Form

The project explored various elements and principles of 3D design. Using different construction techniques, Elly made a “unit” design and created multiples of them to assemble into a compositional form. Overlapped the circle of two paper units in the middle (one up and one down) and glued them first. Then, she assembled this in a constant crisscross pattern/movement.
Found Object: Korean Culture
Materials: Found objects (Teddy bears, Korean traditional masks, Folding fan, Buddhist prayer beads, Bookmarks, Paper organizer)

Challenged herself to see the things around her in a new light and made a sculptural form with what she have got. Elly created a symbolic self-portrait by using objects that represent Korean culture.
